The riots of 2005 gave new impetus to the debate over the status of post-colonial minorities in France. While not explicitly recognized in official discourse, these minorities frequently suffer discriminatory treatment in civil society. In his lecture, Alexis Spire shows how the migratory policies in which these minorities are rooted bear the marks of a colonial past that has often been disguised or camouflaged by the French Republic.
Alexis Spire, a researcher with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and at the Université de Lille II, is a specialist on French immigration and asylum policy.
