Dr. Alec Hargreaves, Director of the Winthrop-King Institute for Contemporary French and Francophone Studies, was made a Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor at a ceremony in Paris on September 27. Hargreaves, appointed in 2001 to head FSU’s newly created Winthrop-King Institute, is a specialist in French immigration issues. The Winthrop-King Institute currently enjoys an international reputation for its innovative programs dealing with issues in contemporary French and Francophone studies. The Institute, created by the Ada Belle Winthrop-King Memorial Fund, also sponsors scholarships enabling FSU undergraduate and graduate students to study in France and other countries.

Hargreaves will be honored at a reception on November 28. Dr. Joe Travis, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and M. Philippe Vinogradoff, Consul General of France in Miami will speak briefly at this ceremony.

The event will take place in the Claude Pepper Auditorium at 4:30 on November 28 and is open to the public. All are welcome.
